Earth Day 2020 50th Anniversary List of Events

There are many online events happening around the world on the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, April 22nd. (Around here, we like to call it Rewilding Earth Day!)

If you’re used to heading out to a gathering, protest, march, or education event on Earth Day, this year is going to be a bit different. As many have discovered since the pandemic began, virtual meetups aren’t always ideal replacements for in-person gatherings, but they also aren’t a bad way to come together in a pinch. And we’ll be doing a lot more online gatherings in the future as we replace the majority of flying and driving we have done in the past.

Instead of recreating a list of Earth Day events in general, we decided to list just the ones that will have at least some Rewilding-related content.

Below is a list of events you’ll want to check out that have a little (or a lot) of Rewilding discussion and presentation topics.

EarthDay.org

On April 22, tune into Earth Day online.
The world’s largest civic event is going digital for the first time in its history. We’ll demand that leaders take science seriously, listen to their people and push for action at every level of society to stop the rising tide of climate change.

We can make a better world for everyone. Tell everyone you know about April 22 and join us at earthday.org as we flood the world with messages of hope, optimism and, above all — action.

Saving Half the Earth: An Earth Day Discussion

An Earth Day webinar led by one of the founders of the Center for Biological Diversity will explore a plan for protecting 30% of America’s wildlands and waters by 2030 and half of them by 2050.

The Center’s Executive Director Kierán Suckling will convene a small panel of experts on a webinar to dive into the value of public lands and waters, the importance of thinking big, and what it’ll take to ensure wild animals and plants have long-term protection for the places they call home. The conversation will last about an hour.

On Wednesday, April 22 at 7 PM EST Alaska Wilderness League will host “Why Protecting the Arctic Refuge Matters to our Climate Future,” where League outreach coordinator Lois Norrgard will discuss the Arctic Refuge and how its protection intersects with environmental justice, human rights, and the climate and biodiversity crisis.
