Submission Guidelines for Rewilding Earth

Rewilding Earth is a source of inspiration and information, a weekly megaphone to bring people into the rewilding circle. We provide focused, intentional content to compel action on critical issues related to cores, corridors, carnivores, compassion, and coexistence. We aim to speak boldly for wildlife and land for their own sake. This is a place to be informed and inspired by rewilding: what works, what may not work, what may be a model for new ideas. We care about community and coalitions, and we promote meaningful campaigns where action is needed.
We are actively seeking article submissions – ranging from original thought pieces with a strong point of view to action alerts that advance the key tenets of rewilding. If we look back to our origins with Wild Earth, writers were expected to be “lucid, perspicacious, and ineffably winsome.” That’s still a goal. What we can offer you as a contributor is an active, engaged, and responsive audience. Our readers are passionate, spirited, well-connected, and committed.
Article length: 300 words minimum, 1,000 words max, ideally somewhere in the middle. Longer pieces will be considered if there are plenty of photos to accompany your text and/or if it is part of a series. If relevant, please include where readers can go to find more information or to get involved at the end of your article.
Images: At least one but preferably several high-quality images to accompany your article. This could include photographs, drawings, and we all know people love maps to better understand a geography. Video links are also welcome. Ideal image size is a minimum of 1200 pixels wide at 72 DPI. Please provide captions and photographer/artist credit for all images. And please, only send images you have permission to use and/or are in the public domain.
For photographers and artists: We also welcome artists and photographers to submit images to our database that we may use, with credit, in future articles. We want our stories to be visually stunning and inspire people to protect wild critters and wild nature. Having a variety of evergreen images in our database will help us avoid stock photography. You never know when we might need a photo of your region or wildlife you’ve encountered.
Author bio: We want to show that reputable experts, influential activists, and compassionate creatives are at the heart of what we do. We showcase not only the ideas that matter, but the people behind the ideas. Please provide a photo headshot and a couple of sentences about yourself and your affiliations for the author byline. Include links to websites and/or social media you would like included.
We will proofread your submission. We may also make editorial suggestions that we will send back to you to review/revise/reject before publication. We will include an editorial note if we feel it is necessary to provide context or additional information. This will be a collaborative process; our goal is to make your article easy to read and ensure you are pleased.
Please note, we reserve the right to reject submissions. We will not accept AI-generated articles. Other publications are welcome to reprint articles with proper credit to the Rewilding Institute.
Contact: All submissions may be sent to Managing Editor Katie Shepard (ka***@*******ng.org)*. Feel free to contact us first to pitch or discuss an idea. We also invite contributors to consider an appearance on the Rewilding Earth podcast. Please reach out to Host Jack Humphrey (ja**@*******ng.org)* for more information. Thank you; we appreciate your contributions!
