Lavinia Currier Joins Dive In: Discussing Captain Paul Watson and Deep Sea Mining
Lavinia Currier joins a conversation on “Dive In” with Liz Taylor and Dr. Sylvia Earle to discuss deep sea mining and Captain Paul Watson.
Captain Watson was arrested by Danish police upon arrival in Nuuk, Greenland, onboard the M/Y John Paul DeJoria in July. Danish authorities claim that the arrest was made due to an international arrest warrant issued by Japan, related to his anti-whaling campaigns in the Antarctic more than a decade ago. He faces the possibility of extradition to Japan, where he could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Lavinia Currier is a writer, filmmaker, and conservationist living on the island of Molokai. She met Paul Watson while in college, and inspired by his determination to stop commercial whaling, has been aboard Sea Shepherd vessels on campaigns to protect marine animals. She recently directed Deep Trouble, a short film with Sylvia Earle and Yo-Yo Ma about the dangers of deep sea mining.
“Dive In with Liz and Sylvia” is an episodic series that deals with ocean issues or animals, but many episodes involve similar land concerns and environmental efforts.
